CLASSIC Luxury. Another subjective term. The first association with the word is to be rich. The first association with the thought is to be free. Which of the two types of luxury is your personal criterion? The answer is entirely subjective. The places we spend our life in, can be, in their own way, symbols of luxury. Is luxury equal to the cost? The one we pay to own an item, the one we pay; the one we pay as individuals, in order to be rich and surrounded by details of luxury? All these social dimensions of luxury, for some people are not a priority. They prefer life amid nature, the luxury of being far from the noise of the big city, the luxury of being free. Where those two stands meet is the likely place true luxury will be found. The fact is, trends in furnishing and interiors, as the trends in fashion, is lately circling around the shine of gold and silver. In the end luxury of accessories became fashion. But what are the signs of true elegance, of aristocracy? And how much does it differ from the ostentation of some luxury accessories? One's home often expresses one's being, character, temperament. Why would we call one home luxurious, and another – not? The overall atmosphere, no doubt, is what first draws attention. Subsequently we see the details – fruits, furniture, textiles, accessories, paintings. All these could add to the impression of luxury in some way. Subtle luxury is the one with the greatest depth. In cases of subtlety, we often perceive the interior as chic. This type of interior has a very subdued expression. Materials are natural – wood, textiles, leather. Although sparingly, sometimes stone lining, marble or granite may be present. Solutions of this kind we sometimes call classical, different times – minimalistic. We may also find ethnology-elements. But at all times, the plain line and the sense of measure give the impression of chic. This style is often defined “modern classic”. Making of an authentic classical design is no easy task, indeed. Characteristic for this style is, without a doubt, the presence of many and rich details. And precisely the method of combining the elements is the trickiest part of design. These places vary so much that they are difficult to define. Sometimes the feeling they emit is light and non-committing. Yet sometimes – heavy and overwhelming. The colour scheme may be light shades of white and beige. But that's hardly a norm. Classic solutions vary a lot. Often times we find repetitive details, set in the centre of attention. Textiles may have a leading role in design. Or it could be subordinate to the harmony of the material and colour combination. All in all, classical interior solutions are not subjected to trend, especially when they are properly sustained and balanced as solutions. Interiors as relational spaces, designed to organise all of human activities. Environments which are embedded in the communication system and involve individuals and groups on a physical, emotional, social level. Classic interiors are one of the areas of design which is undergoing the fastest transformation. Today interior design includes and goes far beyond the traditional definition of the intimate components of architecture.
